Agentforce Nonprofit (formerly Nonprofit Cloud) is Salesforce's current nonprofit product, and NPSP is the older package that is still supported but gets no new features. You don't have to move. Whether you should depends on whether something only the newer product offers would solve a problem you have. This post compares the two and gives you a way to decide.
If you want the short answer on whether NPSP is being shut down, read Is NPSP going away?. It covers what Salesforce has said. Here we focus on how the two differ.
The names, so you don't get lost
- NPSP is the Nonprofit Success Pack. It is a set of managed packages installed on top of Salesforce Sales Cloud, not a license type (Salesforce Ben, February 2026).
- Nonprofit Cloud is the product Salesforce launched in March 2023 with a new data model. Salesforce has since renamed it Agentforce Nonprofit. They are the same product, and you may see all names used.
- Agentforce 360 for Nonprofits is the broader suite of tools around it, per the same source.
What stays the same
Both products let you track donors, gifts, campaigns and relationships on the Salesforce platform. Both can be customized with flows, reports and integrations. And a team that knows Salesforce will find much familiar.
What differs
The biggest difference is the data model, which is how the system stores people and gifts. Third-party implementation guides describe it like this (they are not Salesforce documentation, so verify details for your own org):
| NPSP | Agentforce Nonprofit | |
|---|---|---|
| People | Contacts grouped in Household Accounts | Person Accounts, with groups modeled through Party Relationship Groups |
| Gifts | Recorded as Opportunities | Dedicated gift objects, such as Gift Commitments for pledges or recurring gifts and Gift Transactions for each payment |
| Where new features land | No new features | New development is going here |
Sources: MoveData documentation and Integrate.io.
In practice, this means reports, flows and integrations built for NPSP's Opportunities and Households don't carry over as they are. They have to be rebuilt for the new objects.
What NPSP still does well
If NPSP works for your team, it will keep working. Salesforce hasn't announced an end-of-life or end-of-sale date, and nonprofits on NPSP have no requirement to migrate. NPSP also has many years of community knowledge behind it: admins, consultants and add-on apps know it well.
What only Agentforce Nonprofit offers
Salesforce is putting new nonprofit development into Agentforce Nonprofit. That includes the newer fundraising data model above and features Salesforce markets alongside it, such as volunteer management and AI agents. Confirm the current feature list on Salesforce's site before you plan around any of them, since it changes often.
Also, since December 2025, Power of Us donates licenses for Agentforce Nonprofit rather than NPSP licenses (Cloud for Good, February 2026). So a new nonprofit starts there. See is Salesforce free for nonprofits for how that program works.
Should you move?
Use this as a guide.
Move soon if:
- You're about to rebuild anyway, because the current setup is hard to maintain.
- You need a capability that exists only in Agentforce Nonprofit.
- You're a new Salesforce nonprofit with no NPSP history. Start on the newer product.
Plan, but wait, if:
- NPSP works, and you want to budget a move in the next year or two.
- Your team is in a busy stretch, such as year-end giving.
Stay if:
- Nothing on the new platform solves a problem you actually have, and your team is stretched.
Staying is a decision, not a default. Look again when your programs, funders or staff change.
What a move involves
It's not an upgrade button. Expect to cover:
- Data: mapping and loading contacts, households, gifts, recurring gifts and campaigns into the new model, then checking the numbers.
- Automation: rebuilding flows and rules on the new objects.
- Reports and dashboards: rebuilding them so board and funder numbers still match.
- Integrations: reconnecting donation forms, email, accounting and anything else.
- People: training so the team knows where things live.
The order matters. For example, Integrate.io notes that commitments should be loaded before transactions so the links between them don't break.
Questions to ask your team before deciding
Put these on the table at your next staff or board meeting:
- What breaks if the person who built our Salesforce leaves? If the answer is "a lot", a review is overdue whether you move or not.
- What do we wish Salesforce could do that it can't today? If the answer is on the list of newer features, check it against Salesforce's current documentation.
- What is our busiest season? Move in your quiet months.
- How much of our setup is custom? Heavy customization on NPSP objects means more rebuilding on the other side.
- Which of our funders or auditors depend on our current reports? Those reports need to match after any move.
A note on timing and risk
Moving early isn't automatically safer. A rushed migration can corrupt gift history or break receipts. Waiting isn't automatically risky either, because NPSP is supported and has no announced end date. The risk to avoid is making the decision by accident: letting a messy setup get worse until a move becomes urgent. A scheduled review each year keeps the choice in your hands.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nonprofit Cloud the same as Agentforce Nonprofit?
Yes. Salesforce renamed Nonprofit Cloud to Agentforce Nonprofit.
Is NPSP being discontinued?
Salesforce hasn't announced an end date, and it still supports NPSP. It no longer adds new features.
Can I upgrade from NPSP automatically?
No. Because the data model is different, a move means setting up the new product and migrating your data and customizations.
How long does a migration take?
It depends on your data volume, how much you've customized, and how many integrations you have. Anyone who quotes a time without looking at your org is guessing.
Will I lose my data if I stay on NPSP?
No. Staying on NPSP doesn't put your data at risk. You just won't get new features.
