The best nonprofit CRM software is the one your team will actually keep clean and use. For a small team that mainly tracks donors, a focused tool like Little Green Light, Bloomerang or Neon CRM is often the right call. Salesforce fits when you need to track more than gifts: programs, cases, grants, volunteers, or health data. The wrong choice is picking on price alone.
We work in Salesforce, so we have a point of view. This comparison tries to be fair to the other tools, and it says where each one is the better fit. We kept prices to what the vendors publish, and we tell you where you need to check.
What a nonprofit CRM needs to do
Before comparing products, write down what you need. Most nonprofits need some mix of:
- Donor and gift records: who gave, how much, to which campaign or fund.
- Recurring gifts and receipts: tracking monthly donors and sending tax acknowledgments.
- Communications: email, segmenting, and a record of every touch.
- Reporting: numbers for your board and funders, without exporting to a spreadsheet every time.
- Integrations: your donation forms, payment processor, email tool and accounting software.
- Beyond donors: programs, clients, grants, volunteers or events, if they matter to you.
The last item is what separates the tools. Donor-focused CRMs are built around fundraising. A platform like Salesforce can model almost anything, which is both its strength and its cost.
How the main options price
Pricing models differ more than the numbers do, so compare the model first.
| Tool | How it prices | Published starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Little Green Light | By number of constituent records | $45 per month for up to 2,500 records |
| Bloomerang CRM | By number of records; unlimited users | From $125 per month, billed annually |
| Neon CRM | By your organization's annual revenue | From $99 per month |
| Salesforce | Per user; 10 free licenses through Power of Us | Varies by edition |
Where those numbers come from:
- Little Green Light publishes a table on its help site. That page was last updated in 2023, so confirm current rates with them.
- Bloomerang lists CRM from $125 per month, billed annually, with unlimited users on every plan, on its pricing page (checked November 2026). Fundraising and Volunteer are separate products. Record-count tiers are by quote.
- Neon CRM shows a $99 per month starting price on its pricing page (checked November 2026) and says price is based on your organization's revenue. It doesn't list the higher tiers publicly.
- Salesforce nonprofit pricing is per user per month, billed annually, and the nonprofit pricing page lists edition prices. Eligible nonprofits also get free licenses, covered below.
Third-party sites list different numbers for some of these tools, and the vendors change plans. Treat any figure here as a starting point and ask for a quote that includes everything you need.
Where each tool fits
Little Green Light: small teams that want simple donor tracking
Little Green Light is built for straightforward donor management at a low price. If you have a small development team, a modest database and a handful of reports to run, it's hard to beat on cost. It's a good fit when your needs end at donors and gifts.
Bloomerang: donor retention and an all-in-one feel
Bloomerang positions its CRM around donor engagement. Its pricing page lists donor management, predictive giving insights, marketing and reporting in the CRM, with fundraising and volunteer tools as separate products. Unlimited users on every plan is useful if many staff need access. It's a strong fit for teams focused on keeping donors.
Neon CRM: broader tooling for growing organizations
Neon's pricing page lists a wider set in its starting plan: supporter profiles, grant management, campaigns and forms, peer-to-peer, recurring gifts, email and text messaging, and a donor portal. If you want membership, events or grants inside the same tool as donations, it's worth a close look. See our guide to Neon CRM alternatives if you're weighing a move.
Salesforce: when your work goes beyond fundraising
Salesforce is a configurable platform. Nonprofits use it to manage donors, but also programs, case files, grants, volunteers and, with the right setup, protected health information. That flexibility takes design, someone to own it, and often outside help. We cover the cost side in is Salesforce free for nonprofits.
Salesforce is usually the better fit when:
- You track program participants or cases alongside donors.
- Funders require reporting that a donor tool can't produce.
- You need integrations or automations beyond what a packaged tool offers.
- You handle sensitive data and need fine-grained access control.
It's usually not the best fit when you have one part-time person running fundraising and no one to own the system. A simpler tool may serve you better, and cost less in staff time.
Total cost is more than the subscription
Compare these, not just the monthly price:
- Setup: data import, configuration, and any customization.
- Ownership: who will maintain the system, fix reports, and add users.
- Add-ons: payments, email, text, volunteer tools, and whether each is included or priced separately.
- Training: a tool nobody understands will end up as a spreadsheet again.
- Exit: can you export your data cleanly if you leave?
A $99 tool that fits you can cost far less than a free platform that doesn't. The reverse is also true.
Questions to ask before you choose
- What three reports do our board and funders ask for every year? Can the tool produce them without manual work?
- What else do we track besides donors?
- Who will own this system in two years?
- What does each integration cost, and does it sync both ways?
- How many records and users will we have in three years?
Frequently asked questions
What is the best CRM for a small nonprofit?
For a small team that mainly tracks donors, a focused donor CRM such as Little Green Light, Bloomerang or Neon CRM is usually the simpler and cheaper choice. Start with your top three needs and test two tools with a sample of your data.
Is Salesforce good for nonprofits?
Yes, when you need more than donor tracking or expect to grow into programs, cases or grants. It takes more setup and ownership than a donor-only tool. Salesforce also offers eligible nonprofits free licenses through its Power of Us program.
Can I move from one nonprofit CRM to another later?
Yes, but plan for it. Export your data regularly, keep your gift and contact history clean, and ask any vendor how exports work before you sign.
How much does nonprofit CRM software cost?
It ranges from tens of dollars a month for small databases to far more for larger organizations or bigger platforms. Vendors price by records, revenue or users, so get a quote that covers the features you need.
